  As horizontal wells are subjected to gas-cap and bottom water, gas channeling and water flooding are prone to occur in horizontal wells at the later stage of production; due to interlayer interference in heterogeneous zones or presence of water-bearing interlayer and collapsing clay interlayer etc., the horizontal reservoir section can not be uniformly utilized and the recovery period is relatively short. Based on this situation, our company has proposed the staged completion technology for horizontal wells through R & D and technology supporting, as well as combining self-innovation and introduction of technology.

Notes for completion pipe string assembly as shown in Figure 1:
Completion pipe strings are composed of outer and inner pipe strings.
The outer pipe string is completion pipe string, which will permanently be placed in the borehole and never be pulled out.
The inner pipe string is used for displacing mud, acid-washing and setting external casing packer.

Notes for completion string assembly as shown in Figure 2: it should be sealed with oil or water expandable packer. It is easy to operate and can reduce the complexity of completion and operation risks, meeting the requirements for efficient and safe completion and improving the completion level.

The horizontal reservoir section is completed with screen pipe and the section above the reservoir section is completed with cementing.
The non - producing zone between reservoir sections is isolated with a multiple thermosensitive packer and the multiple- thermal stress compensator is run into the hole for thermal compensation.
Advantages of Staged Completion
Good selectivity; the screen pipe can bring into play the production superiority of horizontal wells.
The combination of multiple external casing packer and casing can seal the undesired zones and necessary measures can be taken by section.
The combination of multiple external casing packer and casing can divide the production layer into relatively independent well sections at which different stimulation treatments can be made accordingly. This method is especially applicable to the well intervals with high production and heterogeneity in horizontal sections as well as unstable well intervals or well intervals close to bottom water or edge water.
Completion by section can significantly reduce the cost of horizontal well completion, by means of which, the horizontal reservoir section in horizontal wells can not only be evenly utilized, but the bottom water coning and edge water flooding as well as water content in horizontal wells can effectively be controlled. Thus the oil production period with no water or low water content can be extended.
Using precision microporous screen pipe; with sufficient effusion area and intensity, it has good sand and corrosion control performance.
As the upper screen pipe is not cemented, the pump can be directly run for production, Some effective operating measures can be taken in the middle and late production stages to extend well life and increase individual well production, such as water exploration, water shutoff, fracturing, zone adjustment and steam injection by section in heavy oil thermal recovery wells.
