1、Structural Features of Casing Rolling Centralizer
  Rolling centralizer is a kind of rigid centralizer, and is available for spiral type and straight blade type. There are 2 rows of rollers laterally on the blade. The roller axis is perpendicular to the borehole axis. When casing enters the deviated hole, it keeps the casing body of a long section off the low-side borehole wall, which reduces the friction area; The rolling motion of the rollers changes the sliding friction of conventional casing running operation into rolling friction, which reduces the coefficient of friction resistance between casing string and sidewall greatly, so as to run casing smoothly.
  As for spiral centralizer, there is an angle of 65° between the centralizing bar and the axis, so spiral centralizer is more advantageous than conventional straight blade centralizer. Firstly, if the hole diameter is irregular, borehole wall will exert a certain lateral component of force on the spiral centralizer during casing running process, which will reduce tight-trip impact; secondly, cement slurry will form vortex in the annulus outside casing when passing the spiral fins of the centralizer. It will change the flow field and wash out the false filter cake on the sidewall. The vortex length is generally 7-9m. It is best to be 3-4m around the centralizer, so as to enhance the displacement efficiency of cement slurry. It is very helpful for enhancing cement job quality. Spiral rolling centralizer and straight blade rolling centralizer are shown in Fig.1 and Fig.2 respectively.

Main Functions of Rolling Centralizer
It reduces the friction resistance during casing running process.
It protects the sealing performance of casing threads.
It enhances cement job quality.
When used for initial sand control completion, it assures the centralization of the screen pipe and enlarges the drainage area of the screen pipe relatively.
It shortens well completion period and reduces the soak time of oil reservoirs in cement slurry.
Field Installation Procedures
After lifting the spiral rolling centralizer onto the drill floor, check the rollers for flexible rolling.
Put the centralizer at the position about 1m below the female casing coupling shoulder, and tighten up with a jackscrew.
Latch the casing elevator above the centralizer and connect another joint of casing.
Lift it up after making up the casing, put the centralizer at the position just below the female casing coupling shoulder and tighten up with a jackscrew.
Test Report
Tested by: Quality Inspection and Test Center for Downhole Tools of Petroleum Industry. The applied testing standard is Q/YJ009-2012 for spiral rolling centralizers.
Field Application
So far, the rolling centralizer has been used in more than 1,000 wells in many oilfields including Dagang Oilfield, Jidong Oilfield, Jilin Oilfield, Daqing Oilfield, Changqing Oilfield, Liaohe Oilfield, Shengli Oilfield and Sichuan Oilfield, etc. The typical application cases are shown in the following Table.
